Hip & Thigh Pain

Hip pain treatment osteopath BathAre you suffering from hip or thigh pain?

Hip and thigh pain is very common in all age groups and it is common for us to see people who are seeking treatment for their hip pain.  When people first have hip pain they panic that they are going to need to have a hip replacement, but unless your pain is very severe this is rarely the case.

Hip Pain Causes

Hip-related pain may be felt in lots of places & sometimes in the middle of a buttock or in the front of your groin and leg, similarly, pain you feel in the hip may actually reflect a problem in your back, rather than your hip itself.  If you happen to pull a muscle in your thigh or leg this can also show up as hip pain.  In some people the cause of their pain will be osteoarthritis of the hip, which is a common thing to find in people over 50.

How can seeing an osteopath help?

Firstly, seeing a registered osteopath, means you will get a full professional diagnosis of the problem. This is important, as self diagnosis or guessing at what the problem is might prolong your discomfort.

Once we have diagnosed the issues, we can help you in a number of ways depending on what the problem is. Everything from massage, joint articulation and manipulation, to carefully prescribed exercises to help alleviate the pain. We will even give you advice on how to stop the problem reoccurring.

We regularly treat people with hip pain, so can give an expert opinion on how best to treat your particular problem and then devise a bespoke treatment plan to help you get back to doing what you enjoy, whether that's walking the dog or running a marathon!

See here for our patient's guide to hip pain - Hip, Groin and Thigh Pain - when you don't have a leg to stand on.

Our osteopath Jay Ruddock also helps produce evidence summaries for the treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis, see the summary here.
